Barton the berk, Warnock’s teeth, Suarez the cheat – the weekend round-up

Here’s my round-up of a strange, strange footballing weekend.

First up, Arsenal. What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Defensively, we are all over the place. This was definitely a game of two halves if I’ve ever seen one. I thought we looked pretty solid in the first half and going forward we looked like the Arsenal of old. Gervinho looked lively. Should he have squared the ball to Van Persie when the score was 2-1? Possibly, but you can’t blame him for shooting; we’ve been accused of trying to walk the ball into the back of the net, so it’s refreshing to see a selfish player once in a while.

Djourou is not Arsenal quality, plain and simple. Positives were Andre Santos and Mikel Arteta; both players looked decent.

I’m not going to dwell on the Blackburn game though, because I’d be here all night.

Joey Barton has a blinder. He gets clattered. He clatters someone. He winds up the fans. What else do we expect from Joey Barton? Funny thing is, when the ref blew the final whistle, he shook Karl Henry’s hand, and once he had a bit of back-up from team-mates, he give all the big one again. Yep, you’re the hard man Barton. The same ‘hard man’ who got flicked in the ear by Gervinho and went down like he’d been shot. Shocking stuff. An embarrassing player if I’ve ever seen one.

Did anyone see Neil Warnock’s false teeth on Match of the Day? Wow! I haven’t noticed them before, but if you missed it, be sure to try and catch it somehow, because they are a diabolically false set of teeth.

Man United beat Chelsea 3-1, which has convinced me even more that Man United really are the luckiest team in world football. Not sure what the stats were saying, but in the first half Man United were 3-0 up and by all accounts they had 3 shots on goal, and Chelsea had about 10! I might be wrong.

Ramires missed an open-ish goal, and Torres missed an open goal after rounding De Gea. Torres, along with Carroll, really is the biggest waste of money in world football. Funny enough, I posted this article when Torres was transferred to Chelsea, and a lot of fans battered me for it. I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. Just check out some of the comments from that article, it’s priceless.

Also, I’m still convinced that Javier Hernandez (Little Pea-nis) is the most over-rated striker in the Premiership. He is pony.

Tottenham actually looked quite decent against 9 men. Suarez is possibly the biggest diver in the Premiership, and definitely the biggest moaner. Great player, but he needs to cut out his antics.

Finally, well played to Swansea. A great three points for the Welsh mob yesterday, and they looked decent.

Goodnight all.

hi scott.. hope you are well. all gooners suffering. as i said before, no team can be taken for granted in our position. the team has taken a few body blows but we live to fight another day. our group is talented enough, they.just need more time to know eachother and develop that.manic chemistry. a change in formation is what we need to buy them some time, imo. until that happens we have to show patience and yes , suffer through some games. we shall rise again. UP THE GUNS OF ARSENAL!!!!
    have a great week everyone.

  2. goonerkam

one game at a time gunners. stand strong with heads held up high.
    kamran

  3. goonerkam, how you doing buddy? Hope all is well.
All it takes is a few decent wins to get our confidence back and we’ll be right back on track. Confidence is rock bottom, but there’s no doubt we have a talented squad.

  4. hec

    Wenger pick up your beret and piss off , we have had your ridiculous pathetic excuses for too many years now, when you arrived we had Begkamp .Adams, Wright,Keown,Winterburn,Dixon , Parlour, Seaman theres is no one, i mean NO ONE we have right now that can match they guys you inherited .what did you do wenger put the lads on a pasta salad diet , big deal . we had a proper football stadium with atmosphere , Wenger you have STOLEN US OF OUR football CLUB, you have turned our football club into a poxy business , we would rather be a football club mid table that a investment for some twit American billionaire who doesnt give a shit about the rank and file. ekEOENkepa;

Just read the Torres article you posted ages ago and the comments on it are hilarious!

  6. @Andy, I got absolutely battered for my post at the time. I would love to reply to every one of those who commented individually. 🙂

  7. REDORDEAD

£120.000.000 on wages, would you expect anything less than a talented squad Scotty?

  8. goonerkam

hear hear scott. topsy turvey season ahead. hoping for the best my man. team needs all gooners behind them for support. no doubt. keep up the good work.
ps. i hope someone breaks that racist basterd BARTON. live by the sword, die by the sword. and stop your whining you pathetic bitch.

  9. @REDORDEAD, fair point 🙂 I have no answer for that one. 🙂

    feeling so depressed, shit weekend

  11. goonerkam

do what the players do .
forget it and focus on the next opponent and game. don’t dewel on bad results too much.

  12. beck

don,t be down. we have a game to win on tuesday and you can be there.
tickets are available for the shrewsbury game on general sale from 10pound[5 for kids and pensioners]

  13. I feel we have one of the strongest teams in the league, pero, we also have one of the ost fragile defence in the league and thats going to cost us!!

  14. ziggy2633

Morning Gooners , The results don’t look good and our position is not what we expect but looking forward, our defence looks bad based on results lately and why won’t they, our defence has been lamented by anyone and his dog over the last year even though we had the most clean sheets out of the top 5 at some point last season. The only one to leave was Clichy who was the weak link defensively. so how comes we are so bad. Because some twat pundits called Redknapp thinks Cahill is worth more than Per. Well i have watched him all season and thank God we didn’t buy him,he is pulled out of position all the time and nowhere to be found whenever Boston concede. Lets give our squad confidence because it will come good. You can’t get 2 goals at OT and be a bad side, that was a youth team who lost confidence after the 4th goal and redcard. With chances squandered yesterday Chelski could have suffered the same fate as us and we defo wouldn’t have missed so many sitters.Attackwise ,we are creating and scoring that should give us hope.Maybe 2holding can protect our backline and a few weeks of team blending and we’ll be back in business. 33 games to go a bad start and its a bleeding crisis because we’re not used to it.How many games did we go beaten last season? Most of which Fab and Nas were injured, so we are capable of it and its going to start because im sure the players are going to look at the table and rise up to it. The best result of the weekend? Mill Citeh playing CL at home and suffering the effects at Fulham? laughable, with that squad? So be positive because it will come good when we sneak in quietly it will be even sweeter.According to the Pundits who have no bottle to be Managers the league is already won and not even a quarter has been played.

  15. Goonerpower

Shocking weekend for all gooners alike. The bit that scares me is our form is relegation material. I’m not saying we will but it started at the end of last season!

I remember that Torres article ha. 50mil Jesus what a deal for Liverpool, until they bought long streak piss pants from Newcastle for 35mil lol.

  16. yido

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  17. Goonerpower

Yido yido yido. We will bounce back make no mistake on that one. Your team on the other hand will always be where you always end up
    6-downwards 😉

  18. yido

    “where you always end up
    6-downwards”

We’ve finished top 5 four out of the previous six seasons, including fifth last season and fourth before.

You will doubtless bounce back but whether you reach the same heights as you have in previous seasons is doubtful imo.

Your defence is a joke. Mertesacker? Andre Santos? The other spaz who Wenger signed from Lorient last season?

You conceded eight goals at OT. Four at Blackburn. An average Liverpool side turned you over in your own back yard. You needed a mistake from GK to beat Swansea who are, in all honesty, a massive pile of shite.

You’ve been on the wane for a long time. You can’t deny that. In previus seasons Nasri, and in particular the world class Fabergas helped you keep other teams at arms length, even then only just.

Now they’ve gone and you’ve replaced them with inferior players. What do you think the result is going to be?

  19. Yido, I guarantee we’ll finish in the top 4 again. If not, above you boys, again! A spurs fan mocking Arsenal is the equivalent of a Rochdale fan believing they’re as good as Barcelona. It really is. Concentrate on your top 8 finish and Europa League, and we’ll worry about our own team.

  20. yido

Oh dear Scott. Your protestations of superiority are becoming ever more desperate.

    Enjoy your season.

  21. @Scott…… who’s this yido, certainly not me, Arsenal will come good, as i’m sure you already know, i just hope it’s not until we meet at the lane, keep up the good work buddy

  22. yido

I know Scott is sorely lacking in wit, humour and insight but his situation is hardly so desperate that he needs a Spurs fan to intervene on his behalf.

Don’t you realise that pity from a yid will destroy his one last vestage of self worth?

Take away his capacity to belittle and sneer at Spurs and he may have to face up to the fact that Wenger’s lost it, and that Spurs have a better team this season and that they destroyed any claim they may still have to being a big club when they shipped eight goals at Old trafford. Not to mention the fact that they are now City’s feeder club.
Why would you do this bro? Can you really be so heartless?

  23. goonerkam

i haven’t taken the tots. seriously for ages. at least for twenty years. the most hated of all for me are the red macs, the newly shitty, chelski and anyone else who thinks buying titles is the same as earning them. add to that the cluggers who will try to break you when they can’t keep up with you football wise. next the fa and their impotant , useless policies and refs. add to that the mafia that is uefa and FIFA. last but not least the ignorant baiesd media and there you have the list .tots. don’t even make it to top ten. if anyone is headed for bankruptcy and relegation is them and arry to debtors prison. spent 200mil over last thRee years and still can’t make a challenge for the title and/or finish in the top four. like i said, concern yourselves and laugh at your own problems. you have much more to worry about than the red and white.
    UP THE GUNS!!!!
behead the roadrunners in two weeks time. or is that a chicken on your shirt? 😉

  24. yido

    “200mil over last thRee years”

    have you been drinking bro?

Where did that 200mil go? Because in the last two seasons we’ve spent a grand total of around £15 million on Sandro, Pienaar, and VDV.

So in the previous season we spent £185 million?

The fact that you have to resort to lies to convince youself that you’re still superior to Spurs tells you everything you need to know about just how far you’ve fallen.

  25. @Yido, to be fair I’ve not got any real hatred towards Tottenham at all. Obviously you’re our geographical rivals, but I must admit that Arsenal and Tottenham are a couple of the remaining big teams who have done things the right way and the hard way. And i do actually respect that. As for your comment regarding Yido6061, he’s a Tottenham fan, but he’s a regular on here, and always welcome. Reason being, he doesn’t come on here to gloat about our defeats, he gives a very honest and realistic opinion.
Likewise Yido, you’re always welcome on here too, we take all shapes and sizes. But try to give some constructive criticism and make sure you come back when you go through a rough patch.

  26. yido

Fucking hell Scott, don’t go all mellow on me now.

We may have a lot of things in common now the power has shifted to Utd and the sugar daddied clubs but please don’t let that get in the way of us hating each others respective guts.

    that’s what football’s all about!

  27. goonerkam

    don’t have to lie bro.
tots. are NUMBER FOUR on transfer league table on net transfer funds on players. the ARSENAL COMES IN AT NUMBER EIGHTEEN. CHECK IT OUT. 2006-2011.
it might drive YOU to drink or worse. three years ago you outset three out of four SUGERDADDIES CLUBS. i guess the tots. are one of them after all. it was mr arrys first or second year in charge. GOOGLE IT.

is that a chicken on your shirt bro.?
    🙂

  28. goonerkam

net transfer funds spent 06-11 tots coming in at fourth. 15000000mil plus . /year.
right above liverpool. right below the chelski.
    readem and weep.

  29. goonerkam

that higher than your league table position in any of those years. HAHAHA

  30. goonerkam

    ALAN SUGERDADDIES. 😉

  31. goonerkam

and just to educate you some more. the word you use in your name and your posts is just as pejorative as the N word.
very unbecoming of a true fan to pick a word stamped on them by westham fans to refer to themselves.
    you are welcome. 🙂

  32. yido

@goonerkam Where are you getting these stats from?

And also, what you fail to take into account is that your wage bill and that of Liverpool’s, is DOUBLE what Tottenham’s is.

When we started splashing out a bit of money in 2006 we were still only paying £50-60k p/w. Whereas teams like Arsenal were paying £100k right left and centre.

As of last year Arsenal’s wage bill was £110m! That’s only £20M less than Man City!

By contrast, Tottenham’s wage bill was £67m, almost half that of Arsenal and Liverpool! And less than Aston Villa’s!

All this is official information. Rather than the made up guesswork you refer to, the link is here http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/55741334.

Wages are what really matter in football. As you’ve seen with man City taking your best players off your hands when they feel like it. So when you look at the obscene wages that the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City pay it’s a miracle that we’ve been able to compete with those clubs over the past couple of seasons.

  33. yido

So the reality is, tansfers aside, that each season that goes by, Arsenal are spending roughly FIFTY MILLION more than Spurs on WAGES ALONE.

With that in mind you have to wonder why Arsenal haven’t been able to record a single league victory over Spurs since Redknapp took charge!

Over the period that you mentioned, 2006 – 2011 tht is £250 MILLION more than Spurs.

Shall I say that again? Just to make sure it sinks in, £250 MILLION more than Spurs!

That’s right £250 MILLION more than Spurs..

So get off your high horse. You wally.

  34. Goonerpower

Man shitty have taken one good player off us and that’s Nasri.

  35. yido

Adebayor? You may hate his guts but he was class for you, his stats back that up.

You can’t tell me he’s not a superior to every one of your strikers bar RVP.

Also, re nasri, it just goes to prove my point. It’s all about wages, if not he would have gone Utd. So when talking about what a club spends and where they should be as a consequence of that spending, wages are even more important than transfer fee’s.

  36. @Yido, we beat you in the Carling Cup a couple of years ago. Battered you in fact.
Btw, only narrow minded people would look at the Arsenal and Tottenham results under Harry Redknapp. How’s about we ask how many Premiership titles you’ve won or how many times you’ve finished above us? Surely, that’s the only important stat. Is it not?

  37. yido

That’s why I said IN THE LEAGUE Scott.

  38. yido

And I’m not saying it means Spurs are bigger or better than Arsenal I just think it’s a decent achievment considering we operate on roughly half the budget that you do.

  39. Goonerpower

Ade is good only when he wants to be, his attitude is horrendous You’ll see. Your welcome to him. By the way if he was “world class” why did Real not buy him……. you have a think about that one.

  40. Goonerpower

And he was good for 1 season. Lazy long streak of spit fuck after that.

  41. yido

I don’t know who you’re quoting with that “world class” there fella.

And besides, are you saying that Sneijder isn’t world class?

    Or Eto’o for that matter?

  42. Goonerpower

Erm no he just couldn’t play to Madrid strenghts. I added the World bit because it’s all the same when you talk of class.

  43. Goonerpower

And Eto played for Barca god knows why brought him into it.

  44. yido

I don’t agree, just because the likes of Adebayor, VDV, Sniejder, Robben, Eto’o are deemed not good enough for Madrid doesn’t mean they aren’t quality players.

It’s flawed logic my friend. Aaron Ramsey isn’t good enough for Madrid but it doesn’t mean he’s not a gool Premier League player does it?

  45. yido

No, Goonerpower, he was origninally at Madrid but they sold him to Mallorca…who then sold him to Barca.

Spurs almost signed him when he was at Mallorca but Pleat didn’t push it through…such is life.

  46. yido

and by ‘gool’ I mean ‘good’, naturally.

  47. Goonerpower

I just don’t think he is class. Ade that is couldn’t wait to sell him if I’m honest

Didn’t realize Eto played for Madrid. Learn something new everyday

  48. SuperCesc

Something drastic has to happen at the club now. Someone floated the idea of getting Guss Hiddink in on a season long deal (as he did with Chelsea) to make the team play as a unit and then reasses in May/June.
Wenger to me anyway, looks broken and defeated. He truly looks as if he has run out of ideas – i honestly believe these results have shocked him.

  49. Goonerpower

Don’t get me wrong Cesc Hiddink is a quality manager and one I would love to replace Wenger if he did go. I just don’t think sacking Wenger will work IMO.

  50. Goonerpower

Your not wrong about something has to change. Not the Manager, plus it could have an adverse effect

  51. yido

Re Adebayor just had a look at his stats here http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=29678

He scores a goal every 2.12 games. RVP get’s a goal very two games.

If RVP is world class then Adebayor is, at the very least, class.

  52. I wouldn’t base RVP off of his goals. He’s not really an out and out striker.
It’s like comparing Bergkamp with Defoe.
Defoe has scored 132 in 360 games, whereas Bergkamp scored 87 goals in 316 games. But you cannot tell me that Defoe is a better forward than Bergkamp.

  53. yido

But Adebayor is much more than his goals aswell. When he’s got the bit between his teeth his hold up play is excellent.

And I wasn’t using those stats against RVP, 1 in 2 is top class and he’s an excellent all round player.

  54. I’m not doubting any of the players ability, they’re both talented. I’m just saying you can’t compare players based on stats. Bale’s stats were diabolical last season and he won the Player of the Year award.

  55. Btw, Yido, don’t worry about the Carling Cup defeat. It’s only the Carling Cup. See, we don’t gloat at your defeats. 😉

  56. yido

I take it you don’t follow Piers Moron on Twitter then…

  57. yido

    I’ll leave you with this….

“Wouldn’t it be ironic if, David Villa played for Aston Villa, Antonio Valencia played for Valencia and Danny Shittu played for Arsenal!”

  58. SuperCesc

    goonerpower,
Yeah its a horrid time, if Wenger goes things might actually get worse, like a supernova everything collapses in on itself.
I just find ‘Ive been coaching for 32 years I dont need to answer these questions’ i bit worrying. Yes you have vast experience Wenger be you are not faultless.
Promote Bould or get in Keown/Adams as a defensive coach and give Usmanov a seat on the board and see what happens.
Gazidis/Hill-Wood/Wenger/Kroenke all adhere to this current model and will not abandon it, you need other voices saying ‘hold on a minute.’
Gazidis’ commercial deals are laughable, 8 i think to manchester united’s 20 odd. There DHL deal nets them more a year than Emirates does for us!!!
Get Usmanov in, put the cat amongst the pidgeons, life at AFC is far, far too comfortable for our board and Wenger.

  59. Goonerpower

I must admit, when Wenger said that statement (32…) it did worry me that he’s not prepared to take note and get help. Let’s hope that he’s sorting it. There’s no doubt he has the quality’s to sort, regardless of what some people think. In my opinion it all hangs with the next five games. I for once are really nervous about our season. I will be praying to the god I don’t believe in!!

  60. SuperCesc

Ha, no shame in that, I’ve offered up sacrifices in the last few weeks….apperently the neighbours cats do not add up to three points

  61. goonerkam

    @6061
sorry your team failed at the Stoke hurdle in the carling cup. better luck in the fa cup.
    UP THE GUNS!!!!!

  62. goonerkam

I’m all for bringing on Martin and/or Dennis into the fold for some psychological uplift and transfer of knowledge of the game. i think that would be productive and positive. even a sports psychologist is a good step. change of tactics and or formation to by the team some precious time to gel is paramount.
the reactionary and impulsive steps that would be unproductive and damaging are as follows.
abandoning our model and adopting the cancerous model employed by the teams around us in buying up titles and trophies.
puting AW under pressure which will only detract his energies from the task at hand.
abandoning our fantastic youth academy and the work at hand to sustain the clubs FUTURE.
starting to spend massive funds on one particular player or other.
in taking these latter step WE WILL LOSE OUR IDENTITY AND THE SOUL OF THE CLUB.
the road is rough and long the one we have taken but the fruit at the end is INCOMPARABLE….

  63. goonerkam

hi supercese, hope all is well with you. will you keep your calling card as is or are you thinking of changing it.
    your friend kamran.
    morning scotty.

  64. SuperCesc

    hey kamran,
to be honest i thought about changing it, but I don’t really have anything against Fabregas, he’s blown up in La Liga already and i think it does the world good to remember where he was made.
If you got timber from the amazon and crafted a beautiful table do you give credit to the forest or the carpenter?

  65. goonerkam

i hear you friend. he is a good.man and player. wish this summer and his transfer had gone down in a way that didn’t leave such a bad taste in our mouths but he served arsenal well for probably half his playing cerear and in time i suppose i will get over some of these lingering feelings i have right now.
    have a great day everyone.

  66. yido

You can’t be bitter against Fabregas guys. He’s gone to win trophies. Same with Nasri.

    Chortle, snigger, guffaw.

  67. Goonerpower

We’ll be saying the same about Modric sooooooon…….

    Snigger, burp fart…..

  68. Goonerpower

Oh let’s not leave out Bale and VdV……

  69. Bale? I doubt if any team capable of winning a trophy is going to buy the most over-rated player in world football. Bar Javier Hernandez.

  70. yido

Over rated? Maybe. Quality player? No doubt.

@ goonerpower, be fair, we made a better fist of keeping our top players this summer than you did. Levy is a very prudent chap and has Modders tied down to a nice five year deal.

He aint going anywhere unless it’s for Torres money.

  71. SuperCesc

@scott totally agree live in a house full of yids (said in the sweetest way possible) and i always say he’s fast and can occasionally put in a great ball but his feet are terrible, just barges through and hopes for the best.
To be honest though Barcelona may have pulled off the best transfer in history £35 Million for Fabregas, don’t know whether that makes them look great, or Ivan Gazidis and Wenger look like complete burks.
To hear PHW say ‘we know we let him go for less than his transfer value but the players wishes need to be taken into consideration’…..ermmm, no it doesn’t, see he signed a ‘contract’

  72. yido

Another week and another right back get’s sent off in attempting to deal with Bale. #overrated

  73. Bale is quick, I’ll give him that. Quick players generally get fouled more.
