Depressing times for an Arsenal fan

I just need someone to give me a big cuddle, and say, ‘don’t worry, everything is going to be fine’. That’s how I feel right now.

In all my life as an Arsenal fan, I’ve never felt so down and so pessimistic about our hopes of winning a trophy. What a depressing day to be an Arsenal fan.

It is early doors, and of course it’s well and truly mathematically possible for us to win the Premiership, but based on our opening performances, and our lack of quality in certain areas, we can pretty much put the Premiership to bed right now.

With the Arsenal v Swansea game coming up soon, you can buy Arsenal soccer tickets here. Tickets for the Borussia Dortmand away game are available now.

At the start of the season, I was confident that we COULD win the Premiership, and that 4th place would be a shocking season. Right now, 4th place is looking like a fantastic position to be in.

I honestly think we’ll finish in the top 4 once again. Regardless of what the media want to believe, we are better equipped than Liverpool, and we know that they either start off well or end well, but there doesn’t seem to be anything in the middle.

The only positives to take out of today’s battering, is that if we did only lose 1 or 2-0, then Wenger may believe that this squad is capable of big things once we get a few of the big boys back. A thrashing might be just what we need for Wenger to go out and put his hands in his pockets, and buy big. We need three marquee signings. Whoever those three players are is anyone’s guess, but we definitely need a big centre-back, and defensive left-back, and a creative midfielder.

There weren’t many positives to take out of today’s game to be honest. I felt sorry for Koscielny, as he actually looked quite decent in moments, and he definitely doesn’t deserve to be on the end of an 8-2 defeat. Armand Traore looked absolutely abysmal from the off. Jenkinson looked out of his depth, but he’s only just being introduced to the big stage, whereas Traore has no excuses. He’s a player who’s already had two seasons out on loan, so the experience is no excuse for him. It’s down to his quality, he’s probably the worst full-back I’ve ever seen in Arsenal shirt. I can’t remember the guy ever having a good game.

If you think I’m singling out Traore, then you’re wrong. We had about 8 other players out there today who just weren’t up for it, or are just not good enough for Arsenal Football Club.

I could be here all night if I was going to moan, and I’m going to cut this short because I’m too depressed to write anymore.

I would like to give massive kudos to the Arsenal away fans that sang and sang until the final whistle today, and stayed till the end. It can’t be easy knowing you’ve got that long depressing journey home, but these fans done well. Fair play.

Roll on Wednesday night, and let’s hope Wenger pulls out a few surprises and signs Sneijder, Kaka, Cahill, Samba, Benzema, Ronaldo, and Messi.

u guys still believe in arsene wenger see let me tell u the truth in wenger we rust cos he doesnt know who 2 buy. the truth i sdat we need a centre back, a striker not park chu young somebody like cavani, a midfield playmaker like hazard, a winger better than walcott and a defensive midfielder, mvila too is also good and also a very good left back like ally cissocho and not gibbs or traore if we can bring at least 4 of this players we should be able to win maybe not this season but next season.

  2. Jokily

Cheer up mate. So we lost to Man U and Liverpool, who are both always tough opponents. Shocking scoreline but we were truly depleted today. But we also won two Champions League ties, hone and away, against a pretty useful Italian side. Not saying we don’t need to strengthen. But go out, have a beer or two and wait for the ‘wake up backlash’ against the recently promoted Swansea at the Emirates on 10 Sept.

You feel depressed? i feel like crying ,never in 60 years of supporting arsenal have i felt ashamed of being a gooner, total disaster, and in my opininion with wengers blessing,he is so hard headed person that he saw it coming, and yet he still done nothing to avoid it,he knows quite well that 3 of our players are basicaly the laziest players on planet earth arshavin, van persie( and if he feels he want away,he is welcome ,in my opinion ) and walcott, all speed and shit and no brains, another thing coquelin inclusion was realy a surprise move, and i commend mr wenger for that, but if he was bold enough to play a 4-3-3- formation he wanted runners on the pitch, and that means younger legs like oxlade, and ryo,) a mystery not even on the bench.I am not going to tell you to sign tom, dick, and harry, but you must put your loyalty to the present players, in a dustbin and start with players who are ready to drop, not cissies, who desest every moment on the fied,

  4. Carmelo Pace malta

jokily, the backlash that every ARSENAL fan wants is REVENGE on who thrased us,manure, and not swansea, and dont be so sure either,on todays showing( no heart in the team ) dont be surprised if we lose again

  5. Christof

Are people f**ing blind. Arsene’s off his nut. End it now.

  6. @Jokily, very true mate. We are capable of going on a big unbeaten run, but we need that run to be about 35 games right now 😉

  7. Silverstuds

Wenger won’t sign anyone of significance before the transfer window closes and the excuses may as well be printed in the papers tomorrow morning.

    – We tried but we couldn’t find the right player. (there was nobody cheap above the age of 18)
    – We tried but the club asked too much money (translation: I’m a penny pincher)
    – We tried but we’ve run out of teenagers to find.
    – We tried but we didn’t have enough time. (translation: I deliberately let the clock tick down so I could help the board sit on a big fat pile of cash).

Mark my words, there will be NO Cahill, NO Samba, NO Mertesacker, NO Kaka and absolutely and most definitely NO Hazard.

Wenger told us he’d strengthen the defence after we lost to Villa last season. We’re still waiting. Then Wenger said we have 4 CBs we don’t need any more. THEN Wenger told us it’s NOT about Quantity it’s about Quality. Yet he prefers to name teens on their debuts in the team rather than one of those ‘quality’ defenders. (Squillaci).

Wake up and smell the coffee. This club is systematically being destroyed and is disintergrating by one man’s delusions, stubbornness, pride and most of all by his refusal to act.

We’ll be finishing around 8th this season.
    – We tried but the clubs made it very difficult for us (translation: they wanted a fair price)

  8. nicoman

Djourou is not good enough for the Arsenal time to let him go ! He must not play again.

  9. Dan Kelly

If this is the worst you have felt as an Arsenal fan you must be like 15 or something. You have missed the Don Howe, Terry Neill, Steve Burtenshaw, Stuart Houston and Bruce Rioch years. SIXTEEN Years of shit! we did win 1 FA Cup in that time with Neill. The Wenger years have spoiled us to the point we ‘expect’ to challenge every year, and rightly so. Today was the lowest point probably for the club in terms of results on the pitch in 115 years.
The truth is Money has changed the landscape beyond repair, we should be proud of the way in which Wenger has conducted his/our business.
Yes we need players quickly, and probably overvalued ones but we still have a wealth of talent & riches that makes us a ‘world class’ club.
Form is temporary class is permanent and we WILL rise again and quickly and under Wenger.
If it is too much for you as a fan to bear right now, hop along to Chelski or Citeh and buy some temporary happiness.
Like the fans at OT today – true fans will sing thru thick & thin.

  10. B.

Cissokho a very good left back ? Not so much.. Walcott is fine IMO. We absolutely need a left-back/center-half/attacking midfielder. Huge priority. Not necessarely huge marquee signings, but someone who does the job.

  11. JC

Lay off Theo for once. He is only 22. He is doing well for his age. His goal ratio since last season is good and improving all the time. Theo is going to be one of our most reliable players. Arsene needs four big players and I mean big players. I hope this game has been a wake up call.

My only problem is that people are barking at the wrong tree. Kroenke needs to know that ultimately he is responsble. If Kroenke is not held to account he will run the club down just like the clowns who owned Liverpool before the current owners.

  12. bradster

Kaka looked great this evening, he would be great at 17m. Real use Benzima so he’s not gonna leave.

Agreed Traore is crap and we’ll hardly ever see Gibbs playing.
Wenger has a lot of work ahead of him these next 3 days. Way too much lacking.

  13. @Dan Kelly, don’t get me wrong, I’m a massive, massive fan of Wenger, and you can refer to previous posts to clarify that. I’m just very, very depressed right now.

  14. mj

the away fans today were absolutely magnificent… its a tough time to be an arsenal fan but no matter what people say, we are always gonna care about our club. ARSENAL for better or for worse.

  15. Ash

What an embarrassing defeat. The gloating of the scummy manure fans, who probably would have supported millwall if they were successful in years gone by is pissing me right off.

I don’t feel ashamed to be an arsenal supporter, I knew we were going to get battered, I was off the mark by two goals!

As suggested, hopefully this defeat will bring in some much needed signings.

We need a left back, central defender, creative midfielder and a striker. An entire new backbone. We were a few players short last season, and even more this season.

We can only look at damage limitation now.

  16. We can still win the title if he buy baines, cahill, mvilla, cavni and hamshik. Thats the minimum

  17. gazman

Before this result I could not see Arsenal finishing in the top half. Could things be even worse than that?

  18. scumcesc

The line up today was crimminal

    1896 pffffff

  19. Arsene Wenger is a Goat. I mean a stubborn nature because he knows where the problem lies but yet Refuse to make amendment. I will be happy if wenger is sacked. Many arsenal fans are now man city so do i. Formerly ARSENAL TILL NO MORE SOCCER. But now its MANCHESTER CITY TILL NO MORE SOCCER.

  20. darren

Here, here to that man above.

No doubting these are hard times but the fans, the true thick and thin fans need to stick together and support the club. Fair play to those who travelled today. I am backing Wenger to pull us through this bad period. Yes we need a transfer or two to come in by Weds. I would spend the lot on Cahill and Baines if it were me. They are available for a decent price. The irony would be Chezzer, Sagna, TV, Cahil and Baines – Would that not be equally as good as any defence in the premier league? IMO it would and might cost us 30-35 million? We are falling down because our midfield does not support our defence properly.

  21. Jay Jay

We are where we are because we the fans have never put pressure on the board and Wenger! So for the last three years they started this decline and we let them be!!
For me Wenger needs to go! He had te last five years and did nothing: we never asked for Marque signings! We just needed better players than chamakh , Arachavin, squilaci, almunia, bendter, …
When you have players like fabregas and nasri leaving and saying that the club is in decline…
    We need change!!!! Urgently
    Otherwise this is it!!!!

  22. I think this season is a goner and Wenger has to go. If Clichy is to be believed,Wenger doesnt do defence drill. I aint surprised the red faced cunt could have scored eight.
I knowt he gunner s aint going to win the epl and cl.Wenger has to know his time is up.

  23. Happy Hammer

Real shame to see North London ‘hammered’ by Manchester 13-3 today. Oh what joy to be a West Ham fan…
    Start your rants….. now

  24. darren

the above being Dan Kelly that is. Good point made.

People who can do nothing but criticise and moan should bugger off and support someone else.

So, i’m not sure how I feel this evening. Part of me is sick and tired of hearing wenger after game refusing to commit to anything but part of me knows that this is a mess of, first Chelsea’s and subsequently, Manchester City’s doing.

What they have done with there billions is to make our wage structure a ligature that is strangling our club slowly to death. The reason we are not signing players is not because we wont pay the transfer fees, it’s because we can’t afford to pay players even half what they get if they go to City.

Players hear about these ridiculous sums and expect to be paid something relative to these sums, and at our professionally managed club ,where we only spend what we earn, its just never going to happen.

So my fellow gooners get used to this mediocrity as nothing will change until rules regulate wages finally come into play. At that point we will become competitive once more and the likes of City will go back to being once a century trophy winners.

I’ve also just noticed, you are all illiterate, is that another Gooner trait

  28. paul

Arsenal forever means arsenal forever you defecting idiots. Are you yids in disguise? Support the fckin club.

  29. mj

i just wanna ask all the fans who wanna see wenger go, is that who should be our manager then? its easy to say yeah wenger should leave but u cant get rid of a guy who has managed the club for 15 years, who is basically really admired and respected by all the players and then get a manager whose worse. its easy for fans to talk about it, but im sure the board realize that things could and probably would be even worse if wenger leaves. just wondering about some of the realistic candidates the fans want to see managing arsenal

  30. @Paul, I support the club through thick and thin, but I’m just very depressed about the quality of our squad. I do believe Wenger will get us out of this, but he clearly needs signings.

  31. ben

    Happy hammer.

You either live away from Upton Park or if you don’t you live in a complete shit hole. I bet you are on benifits that you claim whilst sat on your ass typing away on your stolen laptop. I bet being a skank is slightly easier with the cheaper ticket prices to be had in the championship!!!

  32. justus

let the club go to relwgation n wenger will say”we tried an ee we cdnt get the quqlity players ee n may b next season ee we will try n win smthing ee”
What reasons can AW give for that humiliation?lack of funds?lack of “quality”players?or is he doing research?

  33. Oskar

That is bullshit. If we didn’t put shit players on high wages we would be able to afford superstars. But paying the likes of Bendtner and Denilson 50k a week is just ridiculous!

  34. justus

    frustrated

  35. Bobthepole

From an Evertonian to all Arsenal supporters. Be careful what you wish for. As bad as it seems at the moment, if Wenger leaves you could end up with Benitez

  36. pablo

8 2 just makes me wonder how Carlos Vela isn’t “good enough” for arsenal yet. He is absolute class yet wenger insists on loaning him out! He should definitely be a starter for them. I’m a Chelsea fan but I have always rooted for this kid. After this thrashing I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t want to return. Its a shame his talent is being wasted.

  37. Maybe I’m being too pragmatic but here’s what I saw today and foresee over the next few weeks:

    1) The entire team had a howler….8 goals past Szcesny is unbelievable but when you let your opponents shoot at will and when they are as accurate as they were today, it isn’t a surprise.
    2) Szcesny wasn’t up to it today….he tried his best but it was a clusterfuck performance from every player on the pitch and one of Wenger’s poorest managerial displays in years.
    3) It was clear from the start that they were pumped up and ready for us…SAF has our number and knows how to play us like a cheap fiddle. He admitted in the post-game interview that he expected a much harder game and was surprised at how easy it was, but gracious in victory, he sympathized with Wenger and reminded fans that he is still the best.
    4) If this doesn’t serve as a wake-up call…nothing will. Wenger must bring in needed reinforcements, if for no other reason than our suspension/injury rate is the highest its ever been for any start to a season and may only get worse. How many EPL teams could win at OT missing the likes of Gervinho, Song, Wilshere, Diaby, Frimpong, Sagna, Vermaelen, and Gibbs?
    5) How many teams could hope to beat or tie United on a day when they were clinical and deadly, and us with totally inexperienced kids like OAC, Traore, Jenkinson, Coquelin and Lansbury as substitutes or starters?
    6) Wenger said, in his post game interview, that. ¨We have the money to sign players. If we find players who can strengthen our team then we will do it.¨ and then he said, ¨If we do not do it, it is because we don’t find them.¨ which is Wengerspeak for us lot not to get our hopes up pointlessly but he will be working like a madman to sign his targets.
    7) Over the next few days, I am sure we’ll see 1-3 new signings of relatively unknown but potentially superior quaity players for AFC.
    8) I expect to see him getting rid of Bendtner, Almunia, and Squillaci before the transfer deadline or maybe on loan deals over the next few weeks.
    9) We will have Vermaelen, Gibbs, Wilshere, Frimpong, Song, Diaby and Gervinho back over the next 2 weeks so we will be fit and ready for Swansea and with a point to prove.
    10) AW has a major confidence rebuilding job to do and he knows how to do it. We are now the definite underdogs for the top 4 and the EPL title so that isn’t so bad, considering some of the pressure will be off. We cannot do worse than we did today, nor will we want to….there is now a deep wound that will drive us to want to win and win well, in order to prove that we aren’t the pussies we seemed at OT.

I know Szcesny will remind his back 4 about their lousy defending every moment he gets and I know that winners like Gervinho,RVP, Walcott, Song, Wilshere and Vermaelen will NOT EVER again permit AFC to capitulate like we did today! so buck up Gooners, we will rise from the ashes and regain our status as a World class team.

  38. @Pablo, Vela isn’t great to be fair. He’s a few good moments in Carling Cups, but his overall play is pretty poor.

  39. mark reed

your not in the real world if you thought at the start of the season we could win the title wake up man, wenger has been playing sub-standard players for 4 years now and kept on playing them season after season now he is paying the price for not changing our squad some time back, this is the worst ive seen The Arsenal since 1976 and ive been going since 1969 to the present day 2011.We play with no passion and no pride anyone who is lucky enough to play for our great club should play there hearts out.Iwant wenger out.Iwould love Wrighty and Bergkamp to take over in a joint partnership.

  40. RGG

People going on about wage structures & alike make me laugh.

What are you saying that our wage structure prohibits us from buying players that are not better than Jenkinson, Traore & Djourou??

Today Wenger sent out a team with one of the weakest backlines he’s ever put out & told the team to go for it. You send a team out with tactics like that at Old Trafford you’re going to get smashed (remember the 6-1, Wenger obviously didn’t) It ended up being our worst scoreline in over a century – is that down to wage structures???

Defensively we are awful. 13 points in 14games or whatever it is – that’s relegation form. Now we’ve shipped 8 in one match & he says new signings are not the answer!! Wenger REFUSES to fix the issues around our defending. The only defensive minded business he’s done all summer is sell Clichy!

It breaks my heart to say it but it’s time for a change.

Bring in The Iceman, Bouldy or Keown as his assistant.

  41. pablo

@scottpuffin define great for me. If Vela’s play is poor then he fits right into arsenal..

  42. Mike

More equipped than Liverpool eh! Nice one, though i honestly think Liverpool’s way beyond Arsenal right now. LFC’s got a stronger spine in addition to the old guard + Dalglish is the only manager that can send shivers down fergie’s spine. Felt pity for AFC today though, and will need a minimum of 5 quality signings; left back, center back, att mid, winger, striker; 80 mil should do though.

  43. bridgers

I too have supported Arsenal for a long time, 45 years since I saw my first game! The difference between now and the Terry Neil, Don Howe days is that we COULD be successful. We have the highest income per game (Manure excepted) and a 60,000 stadium pretty much full for every game (but for how long?). We have huge amounts of cash from transfers out, but still shop at Aldi instead of Waitrose. Either the board are complacent, and happy to take the dividend, or Ms Wenger has lost the plot in thinking the likes of Djourou and Squillacci are good enough.
Invest or die, and I think it will be the latter.

  44. Adi

Wenger is trying to ruin everything he did in the past so nobody can continue on his legacy. I think he is doing that on purpose. If that’s not the case, then he’s just history. This team needed at least six players after we knew Nasri and Fabregas will leave (and, let’s face it, we knew it before summer). We need six players (two centre-backs, left back, holding midfielder, creative midfielder and attacker), new manager and decent fitness coach since it is obvious something is wrong in that department of our team. Arshavin and Rosicky should be sold since they are useless, as well as Bendtner, Koscielny, Jenkinson and Traore.

  45. daniel

I am very depressed and mad to write good shit but those “fans” that are saying sack wenger or that thyre are moving to citeh screw you, now is when the club most need us just as RVP said

  46. peter morision

Djourou is not a good player for arsenal…if you watch all the games he has played he alyways make a mistake….Arsene should sell this players and buy some exprience one…OUT….arshavin,,,,chamakh,,,,squilaci,,,,,djourou……IN,,..cahil,,,,,baines,,,sneijder,,,hazard,,,,..we all should support arsene, because he cant do much when the borad are in control……!!!! yes true fans will sing thru thick $ thin….!!!

Worst result for 115 years, irony for our ‘forward’ motto in our 125th year ‘celebrations’

Kroenke is a fucking disaster, he will kill our club, already started… he is a joke

Gazides is a corporate numpty who does kroenkes bidding, a fucking wanker, waste of space, puts up posters! this idiot paid double for jenkinson, it was £2m not £1m!, he is the worst player i have ever seen play in 45 years going home and away, djourou is almost as bad! traore too… we need a squad of 22 quality players, we have a handful! we just sold our best two

    Arsene is totally deluded

Made £100m from player sales, what can we expect, the squad is worse than the early 80’s

Usmanov, dein & bergkamp as our new manager

  48. chelseaant

So, as Bloc Party said, so here we are. All your pidgeons coming home to roost, all those silent tongues now, silenced by years of arrogance, silenced by the failure of the very players Wenger has put his blond faith in and all of you have trotted out the mantra “In Arsene we trust”. All those times i had to listen about how good Denilson, Bendtner (amazing but true), Hleb, Rosicky, Eboue, Vela, Arshavin etc etc etc are. Even yesterday i had to pull up an Arsenal mate (yes it’s nothing personal) of mine for singing the praises of yet another nobody (from South Korea apparently). “Absolutely tragic” I said to him, to have to put your faith in yet another dud. “Absolutely pathetic” is what i should have said. Sorry (not) Gooners, but your fight this year is with RELEGATION not the top 4 and after all these years, after all those boasts and bluffs – ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

By the way, what is that pathetic victor ludorum badge you guys have this year? Not very good timing there eh gonners?

  49. cc

Only TV, RVP, Sagna, Song are good enough for Arsenal. Don’t tell me Walcott is good, he is good because most English want to believe so, he is shit. He need 10 chances to score one, he is useless with his speed when he doesn’t know what to do with the ball..

  50. Gooooooonnnnneeerrrr

@cc i think that you forgot wilshere and sczeney and maybe gervhino, damn how the heck did he manage such a big forehead, must be the new trend.

  55. gaiuskaiser

Can anyone say they feel confident about Swansea next week????????The young boy Sinclair for Swansea has the ability to rip us apart.

  56. Arsenal will not win anything this season. Wenger is so surbbon and trust me, 90% of our players are not even good enough to play for Wolves. He must do the honorable thing by resigning!

  57. SuperCesc

Wenger Out. Board Out. Usmanov in, Guss Hiddink/Carlo Ancelotti/Jose Mourinho in.
Arsene has turned us into a laughing stock, beyond pathetic, have some dignity for once in your egotistical life and quit Arsene.
Worst defeat since 1886 and ‘signings are not the solution’ then what the f**k is Arsene?

  58. Yido

  59. Tottenham lose 5-1 at home to a team who have never won the Premiership, and they still find something to laugh about. Aaaaaw. Bless their little hearts.

“I honestly think we’ll finish in the top 4 once again. Regardless of what the media want to believe, we are better equipped than Liverpool, and we know that they either start off well or end well, but there doesn’t seem to be anything in the middle.”

Really? You’re just as deluded as Wenger if you believe that.
